It’s time once again for all of the internet to share the things that made our week just a little bit better. And to do a little victory dance. And to get the song “My Favorite Things” stuck in our heads. (Sorry.) So here are a few things I am loving lately, as I wrap up a pretty sweetly hopefully-not-sickly week with my fantastic family of four.
Nights Like These
It’s a little ironic that just after I published my post on helping kids slow down in the evening, we had some amazing nights together as a family.
I recently decided to make a change in my after-dinner routine, and it’s made a huge difference. I used to clean up immediately after dinner while Ry played with the kids, but that gave me so little time to spend with them before their bedtimes. Now I rinse some dishes, deal with leftovers, and get the kids’ milk cups in the fridge. Then we have time together as a family.
Here’s what I don’t do after dinner: I don’t wash the dishes, clean the countertops, finish up laundry, etc. I take care of the essentials but stop before it’s all clean, and then spend at least 20 minutes with everyone before I return to chores. Yes, a lot of times the 20 minutes stretch into a lot longer and I end up washing dishes after the kids are in bed. But it’s been worth it.
It’s Spring, pastels are everywhere, and I am just fine with that. It had been weeks since I painted my nails, so when I finally got the chance, you can guess what I went for…this shade is called Grape Gatsby and it’s by Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure. I lean toward this line because I love the extra wide brush and the fact that I just do two coats and I’m done (no basecoat or topcoat needed.) Who has time for topcoats?? Ain’t nobody. That’s who.
I’m a fan of beauty vlogger Sam Schuerman, especially because she’s a mama who keeps it very real. She and her hubby (they also have a daily vlog) have started a series called Talk Tuesday where they just tell stories or chat about any given topic. So far this one was my favorite.
Middle of the Night Texting
I may not love the reason I sent this text to my husband–a possible ear infection for Kai and a cold for Sylvie–but I think I’m going to be laughing about what I wrote for the rest of the day.
Inspiring Devotional Blogs
This week I found so many great blogs that exist just to inspire women and moms and encourage us in our faith. These devotionals are great for a 5-minute break with God during your day. (I like to grab those little moments when I can!) Here were three of my favorites. Check them out!
- Wait Well in the Hard of Life by Unmasking the Mess
- Your Labor in the Lord is Not in Vain by Devotions for Mom
- To the Girl Whose Dream Looks Dead by Flourishing Today
